This beautiful board is what we consider a “one-off”. This board is our normal Butcher size, but we felt the glue joints were a little more obvious than what we typically like to see. We prefer tighter glue joints.
Also, this batch of wood contains several Wind Checks. They are characteristic because the checking is perfectly perpendicular to the annulary rays in the wood grain. Those checks exist at a microscopic level throughout most hard wood, but sometimes become visible—typically in colder, dryer months (normally December-February). As often as not, they will disappear, especially if the board gets a heavy coating of oil and board butter. However, we don’t think these checks will disappear, but they will not affect the integrity of the board.
Walnut tends to be our favorite of the Big 3 (Maple, Cherry and Walnut) because of its ease on a knifes edge and how easy it is to maintain. Walnut perks right up with a little oil and love.
We will NOT install feet unless you ask us not to.
Finger Grooves have already been added, and you can add juice groove/engraving for an additional fee.
